The gentrifications of teh cities have created the mass epidemic of loneliness invisible to everyone but felt by everyone.

'to hear a dissection of a difficult emotion by a real person and not from a beautifully crafted film, YouTube video or a book.' :')

I am entering my 30th year in a couple of weeks and right now I realise how I have started to value silence in my life. That 1 hour in the morning when even my folks are asleep, I just sit and rejoice the silence, when I can hear myself breathing. That silence defines simplicity for me. Sometimes I also wonder when are we going to use our 5G AI smartphones just what they are meant for - calls. Maybe I am going on a different tangent but I do feel this way…

Ahhh.. a fellow from Vikaspuri in Substack was unexpected. My grandparent's home is in Vikaspuri - Kangra Niketan colony. Your writing has captured the ethos of the place so well. ♥️

I guess (re) development needs to match the pace of the ordinary and not the other way round. As a fellow ordinary, I 'wait' for such rants after long purposeful days :)

The funny part is that what you feel about Mumbai I feel it in Delhi and the comfort of ordinary is found in my small city of Aurangabad. But I get what you mean rather I deep down feel it and I have a problem with this alienation, with people just deciding to be in their sacred bubbles. As a young person navigating through life I feel all alone and I don’t think I should be feeling that. Alas I sometimes come back to my small city and everything here seems at peace and that’s a big relief.

So true! There is warmth in Vikaspuri. Inspite of me living away from India, I occasionally keep going back to Vikaspuri, where there is home still and where we used to live earlier. As tacky as it may sound…love the Thursday market! There is something about this place that makes me revisit!
